StanimaOS is built on open-source software. This page documents the licenses, attributions, and legal posture.

Open-Source Components

StanimaOS bundles the following open-source projects, each licensed under the MIT License:

Personal AI Infrastructure (PAI)

The full text of the MIT license is reproduced in your install at ~/.claude/LICENSE-THIRD-PARTY.md and is included in every release tarball StanimaAI publishes.

Client use of the proprietary layer is governed by the StanimaOS End-User License Agreement (EULA) attached to your install. The EULA does NOT restrict your rights under the MIT licenses above for the open-source components.

Trademark

StanimaAI™ and StanimaOS™ are trademarks of Lake Mouton LLC. Trademark applications are pending with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Operational Telemetry

StanimaOS installs include an optional telemetry client (Heartbeat.ts) that POSTs operational metrics every 30 minutes to stanimaai.com/telemetry/heartbeat, member-token gated. The collected fields are documented in the Release Charter and include: installed version, tier, bridge running yes/no, message counts today, cost today, and recent error log lines. Message content, conversation history, and operator identity are never collected. Set STANIMAAI_TELEMETRY=off in your .env to disable.

Third-Party AI Providers

StanimaOS routes prompts and conversations through third-party AI providers (Anthropic, optionally OpenAI). Their privacy policies and terms of service govern that processing. StanimaAI does not access this data and does not control those providers.

Refunds & Cancellation

Plain-English summary:

  • The install fee is non-refundable once StanimaOS is installed and verified working on your machine. Before install, you can cancel for a full refund.
  • Skins are non-refundable once the download has been initiated. Pre-download you can cancel.
  • StanimaOS Pocket is a one-time $14.99 purchase on the Apple App Store. App Store purchases are billed and refunded by Apple under Apple's refund policy.
  • Install warranty: 30 days. If something we installed breaks during the warranty, we fix it free.
  • Free updates for life ship with the install itself. While Stan is in business, every future update is available to your install at no additional cost.
  • Support first. If something is wrong, email support so we can try to fix it before a refund is considered. Most issues are install-side and resolve quickly.

Install fee

Pre-install: full refund anytime before delivery.

Post-install: non-refundable. The install is delivered when the installer has been run on your machine, the verification check passes, and you acknowledge delivery. The software lives on your machine; you own it.

Install failure: if the installer cannot deliver a working install after reasonable troubleshooting with support, you receive a full refund or, at your option, a credit toward a future install attempt.

Install warranty

Bugs, integration breaks, or configuration errors traceable to our setup work are fixed free during the warranty window.

The warranty does NOT cover changes you made to your machine (OS upgrades, third-party software conflicts), accidental file deletion, hardware failure, or upstream service outages (Anthropic, OpenAI, Telegram, ElevenLabs).

Skins

Skins (Deep skins at $10, Light skins at $5) are non-refundable once the download has been initiated. Pre-download you may cancel for a full refund.

If a skin file fails to download or is corrupted on delivery, we redeliver it free. Email support with your order id.

Legacy subscriptions

The monthly Pocket API Credential Service tiers and the Skin of the Month Club are no longer sold. If you hold a legacy subscription from the beta period, you can cancel any time from your account page; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, with no early-termination penalty. Everything that shipped with your install (your context files at ~/.claude/PAI/USER/, downloaded skins, and updates) stays yours after cancellation, and you can switch to your own Anthropic key with no penalty.

Acknowledgment of waiver (EU and EEA customers)

StanimaAI products are downloadable digital content delivered immediately on purchase. EU and EEA consumer protection law allows a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital goods that you may waive by explicit consent when you begin the download. By completing checkout and accepting these terms, you acknowledge that delivery of the download starts immediately upon purchase and that you forfeit the 14-day right of withdrawal once the download has begun.

Refund process

If you believe you qualify for a refund under one of the conditions above, email stan@stanimaai.com with subject [refund]. Include your order id and a short description. We review refund requests within two business days. Approved refunds are issued through the original payment method and appear on your statement in 5 to 10 business days.

  • Chargebacks are treated as cancellation regardless of outcome. Please email stan@stanimaai.com first; we are a small operation and will work with you.

Governing law

This refund and cancellation policy is governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Disputes are resolved in courts located in Oakland County, Michigan. We attempt good-faith resolution by email for 30 days before any escalation.

Changes to this policy

Substantive changes apply prospectively (to new purchases and installs) and do not retroactively change the terms of existing relationships. The current version of this policy is always at stanimaai.com/legal.
